Kenneth Garland is the new superintendent of the Whiteville City Schools.
In a unanimous vote during a called meeting Wednesday night, the Whiteville City Schools Board of Education hired the 47-year-old from a field of six finalists for the job.
Garland was one of 30 initial applicants.
Garland will replace the retiring Thomas Hager, who has served as the school system’s boss since 2009.
