Two young males charged in burglary, shooting of woman

Two young black males, Jemel Antwan Thompson, 22, and Jasper Floyd IV, 20, both showing addresses of West Nance Street, Whiteville, were arrested by a sheriff’s detective Wednesday afternoon on burglary and firearm charges involving a home invasion here Tuesday morning where the homeowner was shot.
Thompson and Floyd were first arrested late Tuesday by Whiteville police on charges involving several recent break-ins and thefts.
A stolen Chevrolet pickup truck, believed to have been used by the suspects in the burglary shortly before 5 a.m. of Rose Jean Blackmon’s home along N.C. 130 just south of the Town of Brunswick’s limits, was found abandoned Wednesday on West Virgil Street just 50 yards from the Whiteville limits. Blackmon was shot in one of her thighs after screamed at an intruder in her bedroom.
Sheriff’s charges include first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injuries, and arson in the incident where an attempt was made to burn the pickup, stolen from a Whiteville resident.
Whiteville police have numerous property-crime charges against both suspects, most of them in cases reported by victims within the past week, and many of them in the Uptown area of Whiteville.
