CERRO GORDO — Sgt. Roger Louis Palmer, 47, died Friday, July 11, 2014 at UNC Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 22, 1966 in Riverhead, N.Y.
He was an officer with the Whiteville Police Department for 23 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday, July 14 at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville. He will be receiving U.S. Marine Corps and the Whiteville Police Department honors at his funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 at New Life Community Church. Police Chaplain Donald Hardwick will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherokee Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Rena Todd Palmer; two daughters, Gabrielle Bowers and Danielle Bowers; his mother, Gwendoline Simmonds Palmer of Whiteville; four brothers,  Maynard Palmer Jr. of Long Island, N.Y., Michael Palmer of Waco, Texas, Tim Palmer and Scott Palmer, both of Whiteville.
