Paving resumes on US 701 Bypass

The holidays are over for commuters and paving crews in Whiteville.

Paving work starts back up Tuesday (July 8) along J.K. Powell Boulevard, also known as US 701 Bypass. The main areas affected will be from Flowers-Pridgen Road near the State Employees Credit Union to the intersection with US 701 Business.

The project will also cause occasional delays at the interchange ramps with US 74-76. M

The Department of Transportation encourages motorists to avoid problems taking US 701 Business (Pinckney Street) and Washington Street.

An alternate Route for US 701 motorists not planning to gain access to US 74-76 is US 701 Business (Pinckney Street) and US 74 Business (Washington Street) at the Columbus County Courthouse traffic circle.

The paving project was put on hold for the holiday week, to avoid additional delays due to increased traffic.
