MATTHEW SHAWN ‘MATT’ ARNETTE


SUNSET BEACH -- Matthew Shawn “Matt” Arnette, 34, died Saturday, May 10, 2008. He was born in Newport News, Va. on Nov. 25, 1973 the son of Larry Arnette of Old Dock and Judy Gray Arnette of Sunset Beach.


Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brunswick Funeral Home of Shallotte.


Surviving in addition to his parents are his sister, Amy Arnette Griffin of Whiteville; paternal grandmother, Marie Barnes Arnette of Springfield, Va.; maternal grandparents, Thomas Gray of Newport News, Va. and Gladys Gray of Shallotte; a nephew, Noah Griffin; and a niece, Caitlin Griffin, both of Whiteville.

ADAMS


ELIZABETHTOWN -- Hazel Bordeaux Adams, 75, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at her residence.


Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Kinlaw Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in Bladen Memorial Gardens. Kinlaw Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


She is survived by four daughters, Juanita Smith, Carol Burney, and Donna Norris, all of Elizabethtown, and Mary Norris of Stedman; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will bel held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 at the funeral home.

WHITEVILLE -- Samuel Brown, 85, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at McLeod Regional Center, Florence, S.C.


Graveside service was held Saturday, May 10, at Clarkton Cemetery with Rev. Hope Vickers officiating. Saint Pauls Funeral Home handled the arrangements.


He is survived by a son, Samuel Shipman Brown Jr. of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Sarah B. Hayes of St. Pauls, and Sherry B. Hecht of Geneva, Fla.; and a granddaughter.

DR. ODELL HOBBS


RICHMOND, Va. -- Dr. Odell Hobbs, 71, formerly of Clarkton, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his rsidence.


Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

BARBARA ANN LEWIS


EVERGREEN -- Barbara Ann Lewis, 66, died Saturday, May 10, at home.


A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Singletary Cemetery in Bladenboro with Reverends Larry Hayes and Brian Blackwell officiating.


She is survived by two sisters, Alma O’Donoghue of Tampa, Fla. and Faye Skender of Atlanta, Ga.; and a brother, Shelton B. Lewis of Whiteville. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.


Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, May 12 at the funeral home.

EVERGREEN -- Artis Nixon, 86, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Bladen County Hospital.

EVERGREEN -- William Stephens Jr., 30, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

DOROTHY H. HAWES


ELIZABETHTOWN -- Dorothy H. Hawes, 98, died Thursday, May 8, 2008. She was born in Horry County the daughter of the late Samuel Haskell Harrelson and Blanche Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Davis Hawes and by a son, Billy Hawes, a grandson, two brothers, and three sisters.


Final rites were held Saturday, May 10, at Bladen-Gaskin Funeral Home with Rev. Edward Lancaster officiating. A private burial followed at Herring Cemetery. Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.


She is survived by a son, Dennis Hawes of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Barbara Villarreal of Tucson, Ariz., and Beth Webster of Surfside Beach, S.C.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchldren, and a step great-grandchild.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

LEWIS HOLLOWAY


WHITEVILLE -- Lewis Holloway, 74, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.


Final rites were held Saturday, May 10, at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cornell Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Campground Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.


Survivors include three sisters, Carrie Bell Crow, Susie Mae Holloway, and Annie Pearl Johnson of Augusta, Ga.

DOUGLAS WAYNE
BARRETT


BLADENBORO -- Douglas Wayne Barrett, 63, died May 9, 2008. Barrett served in the United States Army. He was a self-employed painter.


Final rites will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, May 12, at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home Chapel. Prior to the service from 3-3:45 the family will have visitation. Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.


He is survived by his wife, Catherine Edwards Barrett of the home; a son, Andy McDonald of Bladenboro; three daughters, Lindsay Douglass Karolsky of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Misty Dawn Cole and Stacie Cole, both of Martinsburg, W. Va.; two brothers, Willis Barrett and Bruce Barrett, both of Martinsburg, W. Va.; two sisters, Wilma Wanger and Shirley Atkins, both of Martinsburg, W. Va.; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

CHARLOTTE RUTH PAUL EASON


CONWAY, S.C. -- Charlotte Ruth Paul Eason, 86, widow of the late Richard Cravon Eason, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Kingston Nursing Center.


Mrs. Eason was born in Horry County, a daughter of the late Robert Wilson and Mary Lenora Martin Paul. She was a member of Waccamaw Presbyterian Church and attended Union United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by one son, Wilson Richard Eason; nine brothers, Moses, Corbitt, Bennie, Gene, Hildon, Earl, Kelly, James, and Robert Paul; three sisters, Lela Roberts, Emmie Thurston, Mary Louise Paul, a son-in-law, Joseph H. Hucks Jr.; and one great-granddaughter.


Final rites were held Saturday, May 10, at Waccamaw Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Troy Metzner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway, S.C. Chapel handled the arrangements.


She is survived by a daughter, Mae E. Hucks of Conway, S.C.; six grandchildren, Richard Eason, Freddie Eason, Charlotte Messier, Joseph H. Hucks III, Carie Hucks, and Maggie Dawsey; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
