Lady Gators avoid upset with 4-3 win over WCHS

 

LAKE WACCAMAW - The East Columbus Lady Gators scored two runs in bottom in the bottom of the sixth inning for its first lead of the night as they held on for a 4-3 non-conference softball victory Thursday over the upset-minded West Columbus Lady Vikings.

Caitlin Lane had two hits, including a double, and Jena Britt added a run-scoring double for the Lady Gators.

Carrie Ham was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and striking out eight.
West Columbus’ Kimberly Todd yielded eight hits, struck out one and got the Gators out on infield pop-ups or routine fly balls 13 times.

West Columbus, which has finished third in the Southeastern 1A-2A Conference this season, led 3-0 in the fourth inning.

The Lady Gators posted a 6-0 record this season against fellow Columbus County opponents.

East Columbus, now with a 14-4 record, will play host to Pender today at 4:30 p.m., for the championship of the Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference.

East Columbus and Pender have identical 10-1 conference records.
