Pack thumps
Pats to assure
tie for crown

BURGAW - The Whiteville Wolfpack scored 15 runs in the first two innings and rapped out of total of 20 hits Friday night in its 20-0 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference baseball victory over the host Pender Patriots.

The game was halted after five innings by the 10-run rule.

The win gave the Wolfpack at least a share of a third straight conference championship. Coach Brett Harwood’s WHS squad can clinch the conference title outright with a win over South Brunswick in the final regular-season game tonight at Legion Stadium. (See related story).

Whiteville improved its conference record to 9-2 and season mark to 12-6 as Chase Rhodes and Kyle Caswell combined to pitch a three-hitter.

The big blow of the night came when first baseman Lloyd Enzor blasted a three-run homer in the Wolfpack’s nine-run first inning. WHS added six more runs in the second inning.

Rhodes, Beret Proctor and Michael Wright each had three hits for the Wolfpack. Rhodes and Proctor each hit two doubles.

Enzor and Jake Bush each had two hits while Ryan Hommel knocked a triple, and Caswell and Josh Merritt each had a double. Jake Bush had two hits while Chris Harris and Ian Hooks each had a single.

The loss dropped Pender’s conference record to 0-11. The Patriots will close their season tonight at 7 at East Columbus.
