NCISAA baseball playoffs

Warriors advance with 5-2
win over Wayne Christian

Kyle Hufham

Sophomore Kyle Hufham struck out 17 batters and had three hits, including two-run homer, in Waccamaw Academy’s 5-2 victory over visiting Wayne Christian Academy of Goldsboro in the second round of the NCISAA 1A baseball playoffs.

Coach Winfred Johnson’s Warriors, now holding a 17-5 season record, will go against Kerr-Vance Academy of Henderson Friday at 4 p.m. at Wilson’s Fleming Stadium. The winner of that game goes against the winner of the Lawrence-Hobgood game in a best-of-three series Friday night and Saturday for the NCISAA state 1A title.

Hufham pitched a two-hitter and his home run in the bottom of the first inning erased a 1-0 deficit and put the Warriors on top to stay.

Grayson Graham, Matt Thomas and Taylor Brown also had key hits for the Warriors, who are vying for a fifth state championship in six years.
