DEEP RUN - It was an “all-too-familiar” finish in an “all-too-familiar” setting for the South Columbus Stallions Tuesday night. The underdog Stallions held a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning Tuesday night before the host South Lenoir Blue Devils quickly got its first two batters on base with singles before SL first baseman Lee Taylor delivered a three-run walk-off home run for a 7-6 victory. Taylor’s heroics came in the second round of the state 2A baseball playoffs as the Blue Devils put their season record at 21-3. Last year, on the same field, Coach Willie Gore’s South Columbus team had held a 1-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Blue Devils got the game-winning runs on a two-strike single. Dusty Duncan went the distance on the mound for South Columbus, which closed its season with a 16-8 record. Donovan Watts rapped a bases-loaded triple for the Stallions while Dakota Piver had two hits, drew two walks, scored two runs and drove in a run. Taylor drove in five of South Lenoir’s runs for the night. Braxton Lewis was the winning pitcher. South Columbus had made a strong late season run. After losing their first four Waccamaw Conference games, they rallied to win their remaining eight league matchups to end up in a three-way tie for second place with South Brunswick and East Columbus. South Lenoir will place host to unbeaten First Flight on Friday with the winner of that game scheduled to meet the winner of Friday’s Whiteville-
