Rambling with Ann
By ANN WORTHINGTON It was one of the hottest days we have experienced this summer, and my husband and I were cruising down U.S. 17 at the beach. I saw a large sign that read, “Visit our flea market, guaranteed to sell anything and everything the average person could want or need.” You just know I had to stop and practically drag my husband kicking and screaming into the parking lot, but park he did, and we were off to what I thought was going to be the adventure of a lifetime. I thought the building would be air conditioned, so I suggested to my husband that he just take a comfortable seat and relax while I walked up and down the aisles. Much to my surprise, the building had no air conditioning and was so hot and humid I thought I would be overcome. I tried to stay out of sight of my dear husband, because I knew he would be ready to leave before we entered the front door. I managed to take a few steps down the row of vendors, and was approached by several of them begging me to buy their merchandise. Each one of them had a better special than the other, and one of the men told me that the lady next to him had cut her prices drastically just to aggravate him. Feeling sorry for both of them, I wanted to buy something from each vendor, but I finally turned my back to the man, quickly paid the lady for the painting, and never looked back. I practically ran out of the flea market. I thought about what would happen if I were a vendor in a market some place. I have reached the conclusion they are very special people. They get to meet lots of people, make friends with other vendors, and they always seem to have a good time. I think sometimes that laughter is the medicine we all need from time to time, and I am glad that I take the opportunity to visit flea markets every so often, because one never knows what treasures they will find. My friends, it’s really hard to believe that school has started for another year, and we will soon have to set the clocks back an hour. I am looking forward to some cooler weather, and I’ll bet most of you are too. Now we will be enjoying county fairs, family reunions, and church homecomings. I am ready for the change. My friends, I had better get busy in the kitchen. So until next time, have wonderful days in the weeks ahead, and as always, may God bless all of you in a special way. Be blessed. |
