OBITUARIES

FLORENCE DAVIS
BULLARD

NEW BERN -- Florence Davis Bullard, formerly of Whiteville, went home to be in the presence of the Lord, Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Craven Regional Medical Center. She was born March 20, 1923 in Wilmington the daughter of Kenneth Norwood Davis and Mary Eunice Tucker.

Bullard was a 1940 graduate of New Hanover High School, attended Wilmington College and Meredith College. She retired as the bookstore manager for Southeastern Community College after 18 years and was an active member of Whiteville United Methodist Church serving as organist/pianist and sang in the choir for more than 40 years before moving to New Bern four years ago.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Whiteville United Methodist Church with visitation to follow in the church parlor. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington. Andrews Mortuary of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her son, John Rodney (Rod) Bullard (Judy) of Winston-Salem and daughter, Eunice Bullard Inman (Phil) of New Bern; sister, Mary Katheryn Beall of Wilmington; a brother, Edwin Tucker Davis of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Scott Bullard (Cheryl), James Bullard, Jaime Lynch (Todd), all of Winston-Salem, and David Inman (Joanna) of Raleigh; great-grandsons, Chandler Bullard, Davis Lynch and great-granddaughter, Caroline Bullard, all of Winston-Salem.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harriss Elworth Bullard and a grandson, Matthew Phillip Inman.

DOROTHY MARTIN ENZOR

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Dorothy Martin Enzor, 83, formerly of Fair Bluff, died Monday, May 7, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born in Horry County, S.C., the daughter of the late J.S. and Ethel Barnes Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Enzor.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, at the Powell Cemetery in Fair Bluff. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Robert R. Smith III; a brother, James S. Martin; a sister, Marjorie Shurig; and a half-sister, Martha Williamson; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

RICHARD FRANKLIN
WALKER

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Richard Franklin Walker, 83, died Monday, May 7, 2007, at Hospice House Woodside in Pinellas Park, Fla. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Frank G. and Vernie C. Walker.

Walker moved to St. Petersburg in 1954 and was self-employed in auto repairs.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Hazel S. Walker; two daughters, Kay Duncan and her husband Phil of Whiteville; Cheryl Leonard and her husband Roy of Seminole, Fla.; two sons, Charles F. Walker and his wife Molly of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; Michael Walker and his wife Angela of St. Petersburg; three sisters, Margaret Hufman of Chadbourn, Ruby W. Thompson of Whiteville, and Maybelline Carter of Castle Hayne; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MARTHALEEN INMAN

TABOR CITY -- Marthaleen Inman, 87, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, in Lexington Medical Center, W. Columbia, S.C. She was the widow of Ford Ivan Inman. Born in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late John Carraway Ward and Dora Mae Bennett Ward.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Iron Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Spivey Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Inman of Augusta, Ga., Max Inman of Fairfax, Va., Tim Inman of W. Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Lupton Ward of Wilmington; a sister, Bea Gillette of Wilson; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2-3 p.m. at the church.

ELBERT McNEIL
McPHERSON

CHADBOURN -- Elbert McNeil McPherson, 72, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Premier Living, Lake Waccamaw. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Ernest and Dollie Garrell McPherson.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Beaverdam Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in the McPherson Cemetery, Chadbourn. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise H. McPherson of Chadbourn; two brothers, Robert McPherson of Clarendon, Jerome McPherson of Whiteville; two sisters, Mavis High McPherson of Chadbourn, and Linda Faye Watts McPherson of Thomasville.

Visitation will be held Thursday (tonight) from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

LANDIS NESMITH

FAIR BLUFF -- Landis Nesmith, 57, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at his residence.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Register. Burial will follow in the Butler Branch Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 11 from noon until 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Viewing will be at the church Saturday from 2-3 p.m., at which time the family will receive friends.

JACK NEALY

CHADBOURN -- Jack Nealy, 59, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. He was the son of Joseph Garfield Nealy and the late Ethleen Garrell Nealy.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Hubert Herring officiating. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Hinson Nealy of the home; and a son, Gary Dean Nealy of Chadbourn.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at the funeral home.

TEVA SMITH

NAKINA -- Teva Smith, 93, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare. She was born May 18, 1913 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late John T. and Carrie L. Long Gore. She was an LPN and formerly worked at Otteen Hospital in Asheville.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines with Reverends Allen Pearson and Roger Coffee officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniel R. Gore Cemetery. Peacock Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Gore; and a brother, James Shannon Gore.

FELIX JOSEPH
HARDGRAVES JR.

CLARKTON -- Felix Joseph Hardgraves Jr., 84, died Tuesday, May 9, 2007, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Hardgraves. He retired from the United States Navy.

Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 11, at Clarkton First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarkton Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Ted Hardgraves of Clarkton, and John Hardgraves of Whiteville; five daughters, Debbie Bass and Ann Marlowe, both of Clarkton, Karen Hendricks and Lane Bartley, both of Whiteville, and Jane Ammons of Evergreen; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday (tonight) at Clarkton First Baptist Church.

GEORGE W. FRINK JR.

HALLSBORO -- George W. Frink Jr., 82, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, in Premier Living. He was born Aug. 4, 1924 in Columbus County, the son of the late George W. Frink Sr. and Elva Jackson Frink.

Frink was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. He was a hog farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Hallsboro United Methodist church.

Final arrangements will be announced by Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines of Whiteville.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Hinnant Frink; a daughter, Margaret Frink of Hallsboro; and three grandchildren.

ROY CHANDLER IVEY

CERRO GORDO -- Roy Chandler Ivey, 8, died Monday, May 7, 2007.

Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday (today), at Worthington Funeral Home with Reverends Vernon Williamson and Tim Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Boardman Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home of Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Amy Denise and Culbreth Wade Williamson of the home; father and stepmother, Roy and Paula Ivey Jr. of Evergreen; a sister, Emily Ivey of the home; a half-brother, Bryson Ivey of Evergreen; stepsisters, Courtney Williamson of Whiteville and Ashlynn Dickerson; stepbrother, Joshua Williamson of the home; maternal grandparents, Harry and Betty Fields Williamson of Cerro Gordo; paternal grandparents, Roy and Mary Ivey Sr. of Evergreen and Joan and Charles Britt of Whiteville; maternal step-grandparents, Danny K. Williamson, Kay N. and Johnny Honeycutt of Chadbourn.

CLIFTON HAMER

GREENSBORO -- Clifton Hamer of Greensboro, formerly of Chadbourn, died Saturday, May 5, 2007. He was a veteran of the United States Army with the rank sergeant major with 23 years of service.

Final rites were held Thursday (today), at Providence Baptist Church. Browns Funeral Home of Greensboro is handling the arrangements. D&A Funeral Home of Chadbourn is announcing for the family.

Survivors include his wife, Cora; children, Denise, Wayne, Daryl and Jeffery; sisters, Audrey Hawkins and Louise; brothers, Dudly, Weldon, Edward, Alton, Leon and Dolroe; and two grandchldren.

TONYO BROWN

LELAND -- Tonyo Brown, 17, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, in Wilmington.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, Hampstead with Pastor Jimmie L. Suggs officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Riegelwood. Smith Funeral Home of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Erica Suell; father, Donald Brown, stepfather, Kenneth Suell; three sisters, Enttee Kemp, Jamica Kemp, and Jomaka Brown; two brothers, Donald Brown and James Brown.

Viewing will be on Friday, May 11 from 2-7 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from noon until time of the services.

EVELENA McINTYRE

SCOTTS HILL -- Evelena McIntyre died Friday, May 3, 2007, in Wilmington.

Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (today), at St. Stephens AME Church. Burial will follow in Pollock Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Wilmington is handling the arrangements.
