CHINA GROVE Kenneth Dorward Lennon, 55, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord.
Born June 12, 1951 in Columbus County, the son of Ruth Dorward Lennon of Delco and the late Gaither Boyd Lennon Sr. He was preceded in death by his son, Adam Lennon, on Aug. 17, 2002.
Lennon graduated from Acme Delco School in Delco. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked with AT&T/Bellsouth for 30 years. He enjoyed flying places as a private pilot and riding motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Lewark Lennon; a daughter, Amy Goodman and husband Bennett of China Grove; his mother, Ruth Lennon of Delco; brothers, Boyd Lennon and wife Linda of Millport, Ala., and Billy Lennon and wife Sue of Delco; sisters, Linda Malpass and husband Jesse and Donna Bishop and husband Larry, all of Delco; grandchildren, Kara Leigh and Clayton Adam Goodman, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

FAIR BLUFF Leonard Russell Odham Sr., 85, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Liberty Commons. He was the son of the late Andrew Raymond Odham and Margaret Burton Smith of Garland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glennie Haynes Odham in 1999.
After graduation from Garland High School in 1938, Odham enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Erie in the Pacific area. He saw active confict in the Pearl Harbor attack, where he lost many of his shipmates.
Returning home to Fair Bluff, he married Glennie Haynes and had two children. Russell become Fair Bluff’s Postmaster in 1957 and served the community until his retirement in 1989. Upon retiring he devoted his remaining years to his beloved Fair Bluff Baptist Church, Fair Bluff Masonic Lodge Number 190 and his many friends. His gracious personality will be greatly missed around town.
A memborial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at Fair Bluff Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Lundy and Rev. Thomas Rich Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Powell Cemetery, Fair Bluff. Meares Funeral Home of Fair Bluff is handing the arrangements.
Survivors include his second wife, Nancy Nance Odham of the home; his daughter, Margaret Elaine O. Pierce and her husband Ronald Pierce; two granddaughters, Jennifer Elaine Pierce and Lindsay Sara Pierce, all of Colorado; his son, Dr. Leonard R. Odham Jr. and his wife Anna Yates Odham of Fair Bluff; three grandsons, L. Austin Odham and his wife Erica; a great-grandson Luke Hudson Odham, all of Clarkton, L. Brandon Odham of Wilmington and L. Aaron Odham of Raleigh; a half-brother, Johnny Mack Odham of Havelock.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Margaret O. Woodard; three brothers, Kenneth Burton Odham, Raymond Dempsay Odham and Elmo Hanson Odham.

WHITEVILLE Joyce Caffee Russ, 64, died Friday, March 16, 2007, in the Suwannee Health Care Center, Live Oak, Fla., after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late John Jesse Caffee and Myrtie Powell Caffee. She was also a seamstress and was a member of White Marsh Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with the Reverends Brian Wible and Carroll Fonvielle officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbus Memorial Park, Whiteville. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Jessica and Brian Wible of Live Oak, Fla.; a son, Billy John Russ of Ash; two brothers, Harold and Elizabeth Cafee of Sandy Creek, and Gerald and Nancy Caffee of Hartsville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Amanda Wible of Live Oak, Fla., Kaitlyn Russ of Ash, Danielle Wibble and David Wible, both of Live Oak, Fla.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 21, at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m.

WHITEVILLE Josephine “Jo” Brewer Raper, 90, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the Liberty Commons Nursing Center, Whiteville. She was the daughter of the late Ezra Brewer and Eliza Woosley Brewer and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Raper.
Raper was a member of the Whiteville United Methodist Church.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Whiteville United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Benson officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include her sons, David Raper and wife Ellen of Raleigh and Jim Raper and wife Phyllis of Rock Hill, S.C.; a granddaughter, Allison Wynne Raper, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 19 (tonight) from 7-8:30 p.m.
ELIZABETHTOWN Fred Wilson Brisson, 78, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Donnie Brisson; and a brother, Scott Brisson.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 19 (today), at Dublin First Baptist Church with the Reverends David Brisson and Cameron McGill officiating. Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery of Dublin. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is handling the arrangements.

WHITEVILLE Esther B. Long, 88, died Monday, March 19, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.

NAKINA Jimmy Lee Whaley, 68, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at his residence.
He was born in Sevierville, Tenn. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman Osbon Whaley and Ruth Maples Whaley; and a son, Jimmy Earl Whaley.
Final rites were held Saturday, March 17, at Happy Home Baptist Church with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

DURHAM Andrew “Pete” Chauncey, 44, formerly of Whiteville, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at the Veterans Medical Center.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a bus driver.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Sandy Plain Missionary Baptist Church, Clarkton with Pastor Cleo Williamson delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Mitchellfield Cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include four sisters, Doborah Chauncey, Dorothy S. Williamson, Fannie Walden, Odessa Council; and three brothers, George F. Spaulding, Nathaneil Simpson, and Warren Spaulding Sr.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 20, from 1-6 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services and following the services.
ELIZABETHTOWN Randy Davis Foster, 52, died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Final rites were held Saturday, March 17, at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel. Bladenboro Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his father, Virgil Foster of Elizabethtown; his mother, Annie Foster of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Scott Foster of Elizabethtown and Patrick Foster of Clarkton.

CERRO GORDO Dorothy Lucille Hammond Long, 78, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
Final rites were held Sunday, March 18, at Porter Swamp Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment followed in the Boswell Family Cemetery, Cerro Gordo. Worthington Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue L. Harrelson and Amy Long, both of Cerro Gordo; a son, Charlie D. Long of Cerro Gordo; a brother, Wilton Hammond of Chadbourn; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Shoreland Health Care for their love and care extended to their mother for the past two years as a resident of the facility.

FAYETTEVILLE Theodore Roosevelt Powell, 75, formerly of Whiteville (Mt. Olive community), died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at the Veterans Medical Center.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Final rites were held Saturday, March 17, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Whiteville with Pastor Timothy A. Lance officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Union Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyna Powell of the home; 13 children, Michelle, Velton, Theodore Jr., Karen, Latyna, Tracy and Kevin Powell, Bernard Williams, Charlene Evans, Kareemah Evans, Charles Watson, and Rashanna Watson, and Maurice Watson; four sisters, Puella Hanes, Lucie Mae Simmons, Sue Jette Brown, Leanette Yates; and one brother, Henry Lee Powell.
