TABOR CITY Rev. Neil Jackson “Jackie” Harrelson, 58, went to sleep in his Heavenly Father’s arms, Thursday night, March 16, 2006 in Columbus Regional Healthcare, Whiteville.
He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Ezra Floyd and Lena Mae Currie Harrelson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 19 at the Inman Chapel, conducted by the Reverends Tommy Bryson and Steward Norris, with interment following in Myrtle Green Cemetery, Tabor City. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

BLADENBORO Levie Clayton Bridger Jr., 80, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Southeastern Regional Hospital in Lumberton. He was the son of the late Levie and Robbie Bridger.
He was the vice-president for Bladenboro Cotton Mills for many years.
Final rites were held Saturday, March 18 at First Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Rev. Bert Young and Dr. James E. White officiating. Burial followed in Pinecrest Cemetery in Bladenboro. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Bridger; two daughters, Janet Chernega and Mollie Vandirer; a brother, Charles Bridger; and three grandchildren.

ELIZABETHTOWN Martha M. Davis, 97, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.
Final rites were held Saturday, March 18 at Briar Branch Baptist Church in Elizabethtown by the Rev. Claybourn Faircloth. Burial followed in Briar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.

LUMBERTON John David “Johnny” McLamb, 76, died, Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center. He was born in Columbus County on April 30, 1929 and was the son of the late Albert and Claudia Duncan McLamb Sr.
He was a member of Clyborn Pines Church of God, where he was a Sunday school superintendent and was a retired carpenter.
Final rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20 at Clyborn Pines Church of God with the Reverends James Dodson, George Connor and Bruce Brumfield officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Biggs Funeral Home of Lumberton is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his three sons, Ernest David McLamb and wife Vicky, Albert Lee McLamb and wife Brenda, and Rodney Gerald McLamb and wife Tina, all of Lumberton; five grandchildren, David Craig McLamb, Nolan Ryan McLamb, Ashley Nicole McLamb, Travis Lee McLamb, and Dana Marie McLamb.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby White and Ruth Millican.

CHARLOTTEClarence Wofford “C.W.” Duggins, 92, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at the Huntersville Oaks. Born April 12, 1913 in Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Kimsey King Duggins and Margarett Ellen Spencer Duggins.
Duggins received his BA from Western Kentucky State Teachers College and his MA from Duke University. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II before beginning his career in education. He served as principal for Moorehead Elementary School in Durham and later at Shelby High School, Shelby.
Duggins later served as superintendent for the Oxford City Schools, Oxford and Whiteville City Schools, Whiteville. He was a member of the Lions International and a Mason.
A private family service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Carolina Funeral Service and Cremation Center of Charlotte was entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Cannon Duggins; sons, Marc Duggins and wife, Cyndy of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; C.W. “Ford” Duggins of Anaheim, Calif.; and Kim Duggins of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kevin Duggins and wife, Abbey, of Batesburg, S.C., and Kerin Duggins of Charleston, S.C.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. Rudolph “Neal” Ward, 64, formerly of Nakina died Thursday, March 16, 2006 in Wisconsin. He was born in Columbus County, son of the late Walter S. and Juanita Hardee Ward.
He owned and operated Wardski’s and Orchard Inn in Milwaukee for many years. He retired in 1984 as an over-the-road truck driver employed with Inland Steel Co. He was a singer and guitarist with the “Country Gentlemen” karaoke group.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25 at the Happy Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Peacocks Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

WHITEVILLE Louie Belle Simmons, 95, of the Old Dock community died Wednesday, March 15, 2006. She was born Oct. 18, 1910 in Dorchester County, S.C., the daughter of the late Madison E. and India Ella Proctor Hughes. She was the widow of Kivie M. Simmons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Madison E. Hughes Jr.; three sisters, Thelma Ezzell, Tisher Duncan and Gennie Mae Batten.
She was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church and a member of the Old Dock-Cypress Creek Fire Department Auxiliary.
Final rites were conducted Saturday, March 18 at Palmyra Baptist Church by the Rev. Oscar Hullender. Interment followed in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park.

HALLSBORO Virginia R. Pope, 85, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Silver Stream Health and Rehab Center in Wilmington. She was the daughter of the late Asbourne Pope and Minnie Dew Pope. She was the widow of Glendale Pope.
Pope was a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service and also served in the United States Army during World War II. She was a member of Hallsboro Baptist Church.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 20 at Hallsboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Vogt officiating with burial following in the Pierce Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary Service of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
