OBITUARIES
GOVERNOR CHESTNUT
Retired custodian

CHADBOURN – Governor Chestnut, 71, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Chestnut was a retired custodian from Chadbourn Middle School.

Final rites were held Tuesday, June 13 at Zion Wall Freewill Baptist Church in Chadbourn with Elder Frank Mason Jr. delivering the eulogy. Burial followed the Belvue Cemetery in Chadbourn. D&A Funeral Home of Chadbourn handled the arrangements.

Survivors include Catherine; and a brother, J.C. Chestnut.

 

GREGORY L. HARDEE

CLARENDON – Gregory Lind “Dadada” Hardee, 49, died Sunday, June 11, 2006 peacefully in his home from a long illness. He was the son of Claude Hardee and the late Eloise Hardee.

Hardee enjoyed spend-ing time with his family, especially his grandchildren, farming and riding his Harley with his friends. He was proud to serve as an elected member of the Farm Service Agency Board.

Final rites were held Wednesday, June 14 at Inman Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Twin City Memorial Gardens. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Judi Hardee of the home; two sons, Anthony Hardee and wife Jeannie, and Timothy Hardee and wife Christy and their mother, Ann; his father, Claude Hardee; three brothers, Andy, Sanford, and Mitchell; four grandchildren, Charlie, Ethan, Cameron, and Gracie.

 

MARY GAUSE

TABOR CITY – Mary Gause, 67, died on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C.

Final rites were held Wednesday, June 14 at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church in Tabor City with the Rev. Onita Dupree delivering the eulogy. Interment followed in the Columbus County Singing Union Cemetery. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City handled the arrangements.

Survivors include her children, Joann Reaves of High Point, Edward and Ottie Hemingway of Augusta, Ga., Mona Reaves of Columbia, S.C., Franklin, Ricky and Debra Hemmingway of Tabor City, and Pernell Strickland of Loris, S.C.; a sister, Pauline Small of Baltimore, Md., and a brother, Bobby J. Smith of Tabor City.

 

ANASHIA BELLAMY

TABOR CITY – Anashia Bellamy died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C.

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 15 at the Stephen-Wright Cemetery in Iron Hill. Pastor Antoine L. Bellamy Sr. will be officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City.

 

JOE BOYD

TABOR CITY – Joe Boyd, 99, of the Green Acres community died Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Loris Community Hospital in Loris, S.C.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 17, at Mitchell Sea Missionary Baptist Church in Green Sea, S.C. with Rev. Vanzie Vereen delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Blanche Bodger/Hills Chapel Cemetery in Nichols, S.C.  Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marie Boyd; seven sons, Joseph Boyd Jr., Dennis Boyd, Leroy Boyd, Gerald Boyd, Henry Boyd, Robert Boyd, and Billy Boyd; two daughters, Lillie Boyd-Jarrott and Denise Benbow; and three sisters, Mary Glasgow, Sara Allen and Annie Durb.

 

AMELIA L. MURPHY
Data processor

CREEDMOOR – Amelia Lennon Murphy, 68, formerly of Evergreen, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Duke Hospice at the Meadowlands in Hillsborough.

She was a data processor for a law office.

Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 17 at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Evergreen. Burial will follow in the Lennon Cemetery at Evergreen. Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, John R. Murphy; a daughter, Darlene Murphy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Michael Murphy and Eric Murphy, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters, Ina Hager of Kings Mountain, Nina Williams of Whiteville, Linda Sagoe of California, and Annette Powell of Durham.

Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday from noon until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Viewing will be at the church Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. and again following the service.

There will be a wake Friday, June 16 from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may visit the family beginning Thursday evening at 13064 Haynes Lennon highway, Evergreen.

 

JERRY W. SOLES SR.
Employeed with Martin Marietta Aggregates

JAMESTOWN – Jerry Wayne Soles Sr., 57, died Monday, June 12, 2006 at his residence.

Soles was employed with Martin Marietta Aggregates for the past 39 years. He was always on the go lending a helpful hand to anyone that needed it. He would play old country classics on his guitar for anyone who would listen.

Final rites were held Thursday, June 15, at George Brothers Funeral Service Chapel in Greensboro. Burial followed in Deep River Friends Meeting on Penny Road.

Survivors include his children Windy Gail Soles Richardson, Melissa Ann Soles and Jerry “Buddy” Soles Jr., six grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Jane Smith and Louvenia Stephens, two half-sisters, Betsy Wayne Jackson and Nolie Rushing, and a half-brother, James Coleman. He is preceded in death by his sister, Margie Ward.

Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may be made to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, N.C. 27317.

 

 

MORRIS C. MCCARTHY
SCC instructor and veteran

LAKE WACCAMAW – Morris C. McCarthy, 59, died Sunday, June 11, 2006. McCarthy was born Nov. 20, 1946 in Ithaca, N.Y.

McCarthy, a graduate of Ohio Institute of Technology, was employed with Southeastern Community College as an industrial and safety maintenance instructor.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and was a former member of the Lake Waccamaw Lions Club.

Funeral services with military honors were conducted Wednesday, June 14, at Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines by the Reverends Dale Tanner and David Walker. Interment followed in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery. Peacock’s Chapel In The Pines handled the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Mitchell McCarthy; a son, Sean McCarthy of Buford, Ga.; two daughters, Tara McCarthy and Ashley McCarthy of Duluth, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Joy Thomas of Lexington, Ga.; a stepson, Mitchell Thomas of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Kathy Schweiger of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two brothers, Ernie Hall of Clarkton, Ga., and George Hall of Ithaca, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

TABOR CITY – Monica Madeline Wall, 20, died Friday, June 9, 2006 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Final rites will be conducted  Friday, June 16, at the Great Grace Church in Tabor City with the Rev. Jonah Booth Jr. delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Butler Cemetery in Dothan. Westside Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include mother, Betty L. Wall; one sister, Kimberly A. Wall; five brothers, Darryl Scott, Darrel Wall, Dye Wall, Antwan Wall, Dion Wall; and grandmother, Mamie Scott Sims.

Family visitation will be held Thursday, June 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WHITEVILLE – William Gordon Britt, 58, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by McKenzie Mortuary.

FAIR BLUFF  – Allen Jerome Tyler, 22, of Fair Bluff, died Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville.

Final rites will be held Saturday, June 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Butler Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Fair Bluff. The Rev. Ronald Alford will present the eulogy with Rev. Thomas Register presiding. Burial will be at the Butler Branch Community Cemetery in Fair Bluff.

Viewing will be from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, June 16, at the S&L Funeral Chapel in Fair Bluff.

S&L Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother Lillie Ruth Tyler of Fair Bluff; father, Joe Bullock III of Fair Bluff; three sisters, Shakelia Brantel Tyler, Eve Santanna Tyler and Hope Tyler all of Fair Bluff; three brothers, Joseph J. Tyler of Cartersville, Ga.,  Tretavius Isaiah, and Kendall Isaiah both of Fair Bluff; grandmother, Georgia A. Graham of Fair Bluff; and great grandmother Edna Leggette of Fair Bluff.

The family will receive friends at the home of Lillie Ruth Tyler, 145 Scott Circle, Fair Bluff.
