BELEWS CREEK -- John McNeely Hester Jr., 87, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 24, 1919, the son of the late John Sr. and Allie Fulton Hester.
Hester was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church, an Air Force Veteran, served on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Belews Creek Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and was a life long tobacco farmer.
Final rites were held Saturday, July 1 at Antioch United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Elrod officiating. Burial followed in Gardens of Memory. Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home of Kernersville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife Lucile Lasley Hester of the home; four sons, Wayne, Donald, Raymond, and James; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Sara Pegram; a grandson and a great-grandson.

ELIZABETHTOWN Pauline Lanier Jones, 90, died Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Elizabethtown Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond P. Jones.
Final rites were held Saturday, July 1 at Bladen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Green officiating. Burial followed in Bladen Memorial Gardens. Bladen Funeral Home of Elizabethtown handled the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Wieda J. Wilbur of Hope Mills, Helen J. Johnson of Clarkton, Frieda J. Skinner and Melva J. Jackson both of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Gertrude Griffin of Florida and Mary Lou Talbot of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

NAKINA Wilfred Caldwell Ross, 76, of Nakina died Thursday, June 29, 2006. He was born Dec. 7, 1929 the son of the late P.T. “Code” and Selena Suggs Ross.
Ross was a veteran of the U.S. Army and also retired from the Co-
lumbus County School system. He was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church; an active member of Palmyra Brotherhood and was an avid gardener and fisherman.
Final rites were held Saturday, July 1 at Palmyra Baptist Church with Reverends Oscar Hullender and Eugene Evans officiated. Interment followed in Ross Cemetery. Peacocks Funeral Home of Whiteville handled the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Inman Ezzell Ross; a daughter, Teresa Ross Reintz of Holden Beach; a son, Gregory Ross and wife Rose of Nakina; a stepson, Edwin Ezzell and wife Vicki of Whiteville; two stepdaughters, Sandra Ezzell Hayes and husband Chris of Whiteville and Nancy Ezzel Bennett and husband Scott of Nakina; a brother, Marion Ross of Nakina; three sisters, Elise Bennett of Ash, Suvon Simmons and husband Ervin of Supply, and Phyllis Canady and husband Ray of Tabor City; two grandchildren, David Ross and Josh Ross; six step-grandchildren, Waylon Hayes, Jesse Hayes, Meghan Canady, Callie Ezzell, Jonathan Bennett and Ethan Bennett.
Pallbearers were Ricky Simmons, Dallie Canady, Chris Ross, Scott Bennett, Randy Stocks, and Wynn FormyDuval. Honorary pallbearers were members of Palmyra Baptist Church Brotherhood.

ASHEVILLE Laura Olivia Hardie Jolly, 88, died Friday, June 30, 2006 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Whiteville, she had lived in Asheville for the past six years and was a daughter of the late George Oliver and Flora Noble Hardie. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Palmer Jolly, who died in 2000; four brothers, Ned Hardie, Carson Hardie, George Hardie Jr. and Sam Hardie; and two sisters, Leah Moore and Eunice Hardie.
She was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Whiteville.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 6 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Whiteville with the Rev. Dr. David Heller officiating. Groce Funeral Home of Asheville is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Dyson and husband Charles of Asheville; three grandchildren, Laura Monroe, Chuck Dyson and wife Pam and Amanda Dyson, all of Asheville; six great-grandchildren, David White Jr., Jesse White, Mark Monroe, William Peake, Emily Peake and Jack Dyson, all of Asheville; and five sisters, Floyd Merritt and Patricia Powell, both of Whiteville, Mary Wilson of Dillon, S.C., Bernice Stephens of Clarendon and Marcella Thompson of St. Augustine, Fla.

SICKLERVILLE, N.J. Addie Currie Jones, formerly of Council, died Friday, June 30, 2006.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7 at Winslow Baptist Church in Sicklerville, N.J. Johnson Funeral Home of Morristown, Pa. is handling the arrangements and Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville is announcing for the family.
