Vikings, Eagles battle

The visiting East Bladen squad battled back from a 14-point halftime deficit to pull out a 90-84 victory over the Vikings. Andrews led West Columbus scorers with 19 points while Smith led his EBHS team with 29 points. The loss dropped West Columbus’ conference record to 1-2. Coach Michael Powell’s Vikings, who have a 9-2 season record, will travel to play conference opponent South Robeson on Tuesday. In other Friday games involving Columbus County boys teams, South Columbus squeezed past Pender and Whiteville fell to Trask 81-70.

A field goal by Derrick Clay with six seconds left gave the South Columbus Stallions a 63-61 Waccamaw 1A-2A Conference basketball victory over the host Pender Patriots Friday night.


Gator boys nip Trask to keep league lead

The East Columbus Gators recovered from a miserable third-quarter performance just in time for a 52-51 Waccamaw 1A Conference basketball victory over the host Trask Titans last Wednesday.
