WHITEVILLE — Mr. James Henry Strickland, 77, died Wednesday, May 8, 2014 at Lower Cape Hospice & LifeCare Center. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late Fred D. and Grace Hardie Strickland. He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents; two sisters, Margaret Strickland and Kathryn Deloge.
He served in the US. Army and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne.
He retired from International Paper as a supervisor in the power department.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Monday, May 12 at Peacock Funeral Home. His funeral, with military honors, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, May 12 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kenny Byrd officiating. Burial will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Boswell Strickland; one son, Chris Strickland of Whiteville; one daughter, Angie Strickland Smith of Whiteville; one brother, Freddie Strickland and wife, Wanda, of Clarendon; one sister, Doris Gore and husband, Bobby, of Tabor City; and one granddaughter, Kristin Strickland of Bolton.
