CLARENDON — Rev. George Calvin Smith, 79, died Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Whiteville. Born March 10, 1935 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Archie R. and Addie Rendle Ward Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Smith; one daughter, Donna T. Edwards; and one brother, Ralph Dayton Smith.

Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Methodist Minister. 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at Chadbourn United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the service in the church. Inman Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by two sons, Adolph C. Smith (Maria) of Vanceboro, George Jerome Smith (Leona) of Roanoke Island; one daughter, Sharon K. Sholes (Maurice) of Clarendon; one brother, Archie T. Smith of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Letha P. McDaniel of Clarendon; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
