Football Futility, Week Two

by Franklin Davis on 28th-August-2015

If misery loves company, Columbus County’s four high school football coaches should have a get together. For the second consecutive week, all four Columbus County high school football teams went down to defeat.

Whiteville suffered five turnovers in a 29-8 defeat at East Bladen. East Bladen scored on an 83 yard punt return on the game’s fifth play. Ethan Hines had over 100 yards rushing for East Bladen.

West Bladen outscored West Columbus 53-24.  The Vikings hung close in the first half before the Knights pulled away.

Lakewood capitalized on East Columbus turnovers and defeated the Gators 34-0. Lakewood broke open a 7-0 game with two 2nd quarter touchdowns in a 24 second span.

South Columbus was unable to take advantage of a turnover prone West Brunswick team and fell 20-13. Unofficially the teams combined for 11 turnovers.

Columbus County teams now have a combined record of 0-8. The rest of the Three Rivers Conference is not faring much better. South Robeson and St. Pauls are also 0-2. Red Springs is 2-0 and Fairmont is 0-1. Fairmont was open on Friday.
