WHITEVILLE — Elizabeth Nunnery Blackman, 92, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center. She was born in Columbus County Sept. 25, 1921, the daughter of the late George and Sara Batten Nunnery. She was the widow of Rozier Blackman. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Rosemary Blackman and Frances Ruth Carlisle; one stepson, Joe Blackman; three brothers, Isaac, Roy and Bill Nunnery; two sisters, Geneva Aycock and Bertha Ward; one stepsister, Arizona Faircloth; and one grandson.
She was cafeteria manager at Old Dock School and was a homemaker and caregiver.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Peacock Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 18 at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam McLeary officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
She is survived by four daughters, Gail Blackmon and Jean B. Smith, both of Whiteville, Diane B. Ward of Clarendon, Barbara Blackmon of Stedman; two sons, Ernie Blackmon of Clarkton, Rozier Allen Blackmon of Whiteville; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one step- great-great-grandchild.
