  • Columbus County Schools will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday due to rising water.
  • Columbus County Schools will closeat 1 PM
  • County commissioners tweak, then okay, sublease agreement with plush toy manufacturer.
  • County government to resume normal hours Tuesday; schools decisions to come late Monday afternoon.
  • All county government offices closed Monday.
  • SCC will be closed Monday, as well as all courthouse offices.
  • District and Superior Court cancelled in Columbus County Monday.
  • City and county schools closed Monday due to threat of flooding
  • Parts of Columbus County could see another five to seven inches of rain through Tuesday a.m. The county is under a flood warning.

  • NC 410, south of Chadbourn, re-opened Thursday afternoon after early morning fuel truck wreck closed both lanes.
  • The pilot killed in a Riegelwood plane crash Friday before dusk was a 76-year-old Chinquapin man.
  • Fire and rescue personnel have found the plane wreckage. The pilot of the small plane was declared dead at the scene. No ID yet.
  • 11pm Friday: Fire and rescue crews are searching for a possible downed plane at Old Lake Road and Shaw Road near Riegelwood.
